Prescott, Arizona, commonly dubbed “Everyone’s Hometown,” or simply known as Prescott, is a town whose population has been on an upward trend as recently as 2024. As of this year, the number stands at approximately 50,780, which is a great increase as compared to previous years and the 23rd largest city in the state of Arizona according to the United States Census Bureau. This seems positive because the update of the census showed that these cities are not stagnated but instead grew by 8.2% since the last census that was conducted in 2020, unlike most states in this country. For these reasons, Prescott Valley is currently experiencing strong growth of 2.4 percent with more retailers and builders targeting this area.
Arizona remains a major migration magnet; more than 250,000 people relocated to the state each year between 2015 and 2020. California is still by far the largest sender, contributing about 24 per cent of them. Prescott Valley itself can be now considered one of the most important locations for such relocations within the state of Arizona as the town can offer good quality and relatively low cost of living compared to major cities, such as Los Angeles or Riverside. 648 people moved to the region from Los Angeles, 348 from Riverside between 2016 and 2020; theoretical evidence stressed that third, fourth tessera moving away from its bustling metropolitan areas of California for a less busy life.
It’s not just retirees who love Prescott Valley. Families and young professionals do too. The town is notably family-friendly, featuring highly-rated schools, low crime rates and an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities. With national forests and the scenic beauty of Arizona conveniently located nearby (right outside the door), it has become a paradise for nature enthusiasts. Furthermore, due to the growing infrastructure, this area offers amenities that cater to a diverse range of demographics.
However, the influx of families—particularly those with young children—is beginning to alter the character of the city. In recent years, Prescott Valley has experienced a notable increase in the demand for family-oriented services, including parks, schools and activities that are suitable for kids. Although this trend is promising, it is expected to persist as more young families opt to make the area their home, thereby integrating into the fabric of the community.
In the future Prescott Valley will continue to expand. In 2025 the population is estimated to be over 55,000 and with the outlying areas of Dewey, Humboldt and Chino Valley, they will all contribute to the expansion of this area. The four city area consisting of Prescott, Prescott Valley, and other nearby communities is quickly becoming a mecca for families and retirees.
Prescott Valley still remains attractive because it is a small town with all the advantages of a developing city, easily becoming one of the best places to live in Arizona.
